#7 The rubbish on the road

My main tasks of the day these days are just three things; reading, writing and studying, which implies that I can spend most of my day in my room without going anywhere. This lifestyle seems very ideal but actually, this is far from a healthy lifestyle. Concerning my health, I set a daily task to do exercises, usually have a walk outside. I bought a smartwatch to record my daily footsteps and also I set an aim of 8000 steps per day. This routine has started since the first lockdown in the UK in March 2020. Thus, I have been kept following this routine for a year. It seems that walking is already a part of my essential activity in a day.

Whenever I go out for a walk, I basically spend more than an hour wandering around my town. I can find many attractive places such as cafes, restaurants and so forth while walking. But, recently, I prefer to walk the farm roads rather than the main roads as there are fewer cars and I can enjoy the sceneries of the mountains and the river. As the road is very quiet without any noise except the birds’ singing, I can just enjoy looking at the sky, growth of the fruits and plants while listening to the podcast in English. This is very refreshing after having my studies done.

One day, when I was walking on my favourite farm road, I found rubbish, a cup of instant noodles, and which was thrown away on the road with spilling its soup onto the snow. As soon as I saw this rubbish, I felt very disappointed with the person’s behaviours in doing this. I thought,” This is very immoral”. However, amazingly, this rubbish was removed by someone on the following day. I was wondering who cleaned this rubbish.

After having lived in various foreign countries in my life, I feel that Japan is one of the cleanest countries in the world. This cleanliness can be seen much more obviously in the rural regions of Japan. I think it is because Japanese people share a strong communal mind that leads to enhance their responsibility to keep a tidiness of the public places, including roads. Although the levels of this mindset may vary depending on the people, at least, I am the person who maintains this idea. So, this is potentially the reason why I was disappointed by seeing the rubbish on the road where I tend to enjoy the refreshing time of the day.
